Bursaries & Grants

Every year we give money to help with the costs of education for local children.  We do this through Bursaries and Discretionary Grants. Last year we gave a total of over £5000

What are Bursaries & Discretionary Grants?  Bursaries are a fixed amount per child - at the beginning of the year, the Trustees decide the amount and whether we can afford to give a bursary to every child that year or just to chidren/young people entering a Key Stage; it depends on how much money we have.  We don't means test the award of a bursary.  Discretionary Grants are for variable amounts and are awarded to those families or individuals with extra educational needs which they cannot afford for any reason.  We do means test the award of a discretionary grant and we may work with other Agencies (including schools) to determine needs.

Who can Apply?  Anyone who has been resident in Humbleton, Flinton or Fitling for more than one year who has a child/young person living with them can apply.  If you're a resident aged over 18 and still in education (eg university, apprenticeship) then you can apply for yourself.  If you qualify, you can apply every year.

How to Apply.  Fill in the form below or send an email to herontrustcio@gmail.com and we'll let you have an application form.

Process and Amounts.  Once we have your completed form it will be circulated for approval by the Trustees.  This usually only takes a few days as our only criteria is the age of the child/young person (3-21) and the residency qualification (at least the last 12 months in one of the 3 villages listed above).  The amounts for Bursaries vary each year depending on how much we can afford - but it is usually around £250 per child.  Amounts for Discretionary Grants depend on what you need, how we can assist and what we can afford - get in touch and we will do our best to help.

Here's some recent feedback from people we have helped:

‘Thank you so much for all of your help! My children are really going to benefit from the bursary and will be sure to let other people know about it’

‘Wow i cant tell you how much this will help.We couldnt afford to buy him one so now we have the money we can!’

‘Many thanks for your assistance,  it is appreciated. Thanks for the advice re contacting you next year, we certainly will’

Please fill in a separate form for each child.  Please don't fill in the form if you don't meet our 3 criteria; Child age (3-21), Address (in Humbleton, Fitling or Flinton), Time (been living for at least the last 12 months  in these villages)

You could use your Bursary to pay for extra tuition for your child or books to help them (and you!) learn more about a subject

You could use your Bursary to buy a new laptop  for a young person heading to university
